In fact, our founder invented many of the systems we still use today, to mold some of the best plastic parts available.

Our Story

Midland's history began in the 1950s when Mr. Arthur Vriezelaar invented the Midland Photographic Easel - a tool that enabled small photography studios to mass-produce photo prints more efficiently. What started in his basement soon became Midland Mfg. & Dist. Co., a full-scale manufacturer of photography products. As demand grew, Midland expanded into custom manufacturing, designing and building machinery for a variety of industries.

By the late 1950s, the plastics emerged as a replacement for glass in various manufacturing and packaging industries and Arthur Vriezelaar expanded Midland’s capabilities into plastic manufacturing. In 1960, the company commissioned its first blow-molding machine—becoming one of the first five companies in the United States to produce plastic containers. Midland continued to push the industry forward through advanced molding equipment, new materials, and more efficient production methods.

In the years that followed, Midland expanded rapidly to over 20 blow molding lines across facilities in Monroe, Chicago and Memphis. As part of its continued growth, Midland consolidated manufacturing operations into its headquarters in Monroe, Iowa and has become a trusted supplier to both essential regional businesses and nationally recognized brands. Today, Midland remains grounded in its founding principles: innovation, integrity, and a hands-on approach to building what matters.
